Hi, I’m Madison Scruggs, a junior and pre-law student at the University of Kentucky double majoring in Marketing and Communication. My college journey has been shaped by leadership, service, and a commitment to using my voice to create meaningful impact. Through my academic experiences and involvement on campus, I have developed a passion for advocacy, education, and addressing issues that affect young people’s confidence and well-being.

As a young woman, I have personally seen and experienced the embarrassment that can come with being unprepared for “that time of the month.” Moments like these made me realize how many young people are navigating menstruation without the knowledge, resources, or support they need. That realization inspired me to create Ready, Set, Period.

Ready, Set, Period. is a period preparedness project designed to encourage, support, and educate students in grades 3 through 12. The initiative focuses on helping young people feel confident, informed, and prepared for menstruation while also creating open, honest conversations around a topic that is too often treated as taboo. Through education, resources, and advocacy, the project promotes period positivity while challenging the stigma and misinformation that still surround menstruation.

My goal is to ensure that no young person feels embarrassed or unprepared because of something as natural as their period. By normalizing the conversation and providing practical support, Ready, Set, Period. aims to empower the next generation with knowledge, confidence, and dignity.
